Chair-O-Planes

Chair-O-Planes

This ride is believed to originate from Europe during the early 1920s. In 1974, it was owned by a Scottish Showman named
T. Stirling. Over the next few years the ride was owned by Johnny King Jr of Derbyshire and Carters purchased it in 1978 from Albert Godden of Leicestershire. This set of Chair-O-Planes proved to be quite rare as it was trailer mounted and was also still on its original trailer. During the winter of 1978/79 an extensive overhaul of the ride took place. The whole chassis was rebuilt, a paybox was added using 2 columns from an Orton and Spooner Scenic Railway, a cage system was fitted to aid build up. A new top pole
was also added, along with new silvered nickel chains (originally from Royal Yacht Brittannia), new seats, new drum, drum mirrors, centre boards and rounding boards. Each year the ride undergoes general maintenance and restoration. In 1994, this included fitting a 4 key Chiappa Organ to the ride.
