Joby and Aaron will be demonstrating traditional skills and expert tips that they have acquired restoring the beautiful rides, living wagons and transport of Carters Steam Fair.

Join Joby and Aaron for a series of five virtual sessions broadcasted live plus this course now includes our all NEW recordings that will be sent to you for you to refer back to.
Each of these sessions will be one hour long and Joby and Aaron will be demonstrating their gilding skills and sharing expert tips learnt from lovingly restoring the rides and attractions at Carters Steam Fair since 1976.
You will be shown how to gild flat and three-dimensional objects and will learn other traditional techniques used to create special effects including:
- Oil gilding
- Loose leafing and transfer leafing using 1-hour gold size
- Aluminium leaf demonstration
- The basics of glass gilding
- Velvet burnishing effects
- Using flamboyant paint to create special effects and add style
This is a unique chance to hear Joby and Aaron share some of their signwriting and painting expertise.
Joby, in his 28 years as a signwriter and fairground artist has gained extensive knowledge of painting and decorating. Together with his right hand man Aaron Stephens they will be demonstrating the techniques used to apply gold and aluminium leaf, including transfer and loose leaf. Their work on Carters Steam Fair provides them with an unusual opportunity to use these skills in their everyday work that said the majority of the gilding is undertaken by Aaron.
